ACTIVATE #2 - PASTOR PATRICK

TODAY'S SERMON

THE BIG IDEA:

PRAYER

MANIFEST THINGS THAT OUGHT TO BE,

AND PREVENTS THINGS THAT OUGHT NOT TO BE.

ROMANS 8:26-28 NKJV Likewise the (HOLY) SPIRIT also HELPS in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should PRAY for (AMP – nor HOW to offer it) as we OUGHT, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27 Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit [is], because He makes intercession for the saints according to [THE WILL OF] GOD28 And we know that ALL THINGS WORK TOGETHER FOR GOOD to those who love God, to those who are the called according to [His] purpose.

LUKE 11:1 NKJV Now it came to pass, as He (Jesus) was PRAYING in a certain place, when He ceased, [that] one of His disciples said to Him, "LORD, TEACH US TO PRAY... (PHIL – teach us HOW to pray…)"

1.  THE WORD (THE WILL OF GOD)

JOHN 15:7-8, 11, 16 KJV (Jesus said) If you abide in Me, and MY WORDS abide in you, you will ASK WHAT YOU DESIRE, and IT SHALL BE DONE FOR YOU. 8 By this MY FATHER IS GLORIFIED, that you BEAR MUCH FRUIT; so you will be MY DISCIPLES. ... 11 These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and [that] YOUR JOY MAY BE FULL. … 16 …WHATEVER YOU ASK the Father IN MY NAME He may give you.

1 JOHN 5:14-15 NKJV Now this is the CONFIDENCE that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His WILL, He hears us. 15 And if WE KNOW that He hears us, WHATEVER WE ASKWE KNOW that WE HAVE the petitions that we have asked of Him.

2.  SENSITIVITY TO THE HOLY SPIRIT’S PROMPTINGS

EPHESIANS 6:10-20 NKJV Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual [hosts] of wickedness in the heavenly [places]. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and HAVING DONE ALL, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the SWORD OF THE SPIRIT, which is THE WORD OF GOD; PRAYING always with ALL PRAYER and supplication IN THE SPIRITBEING WATCHFUL to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints-- 19 and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I OUGHT to speak.

3.  BONUS:  DIVINE UTTERANCES IN UNKNOWN LANGUAGES

ROMANS 8:26-28 NKJV Likewise the (Holy) Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we shouldPRAY for as we OUGHT, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with GROANINGS WHICH CANNOT BE UTTERED (in a language you know). 27 Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit [is], because He makes intercession for the saints according to [THE WILL OF] GOD. 28 And we know that ALL THINGS WORK TOGETHER FOR GOOD to those who love God, to those who are the called according to [His] purpose.

1 CORINTHIANS 14:14 AMP For if I PRAY in an [UNKNOWN] TONGUE, my SPIRIT [by THE HOLY SPIRIT within me] PRAYS, but MY MIND IS UNPRODUCTIVE [it bears no fruit and helps nobody].

PRAYING FOR INVITATIONS TO OUTSIDERS

COLOSSIANS 4:2-6 NKJV CONTINUE EARNESTLY in PRAYER, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving; 3 meanwhile PRAYING also for us, that God would open to us a door for the word, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in chains, 4 that I may make it manifest, AS I OUGHT TO SPEAK. 5 Walk in wisdom toward those [who are] outsideredeeming the time. 6 [Let] your speech always [be] with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how YOU OUGHT TO ANSWER each one.

HOW:  PRAYING FOR INVITATIONS (PRACTICE IN FIREPIT TODAY)

We pray that utterance would be given to us, that we may open our mouths boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel. We pray You would open to us doors of utterance to speak the mystery of salvation in a compelling, heart-penetrating way. EPHESIANS 6:19, COLOSSIANS 4:3

May our speech and our preaching not be with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power. May people’s faith be in Your power, not in man’s wisdom! 1 CORINTHIANS 2:4-5 KJV
