TODAY'S BIG IDEA:

ANSWERING THE QUESTION:

“HOW DOES GOD FEEL WHEN HE LOOKS AT ME?”

OUR SHAME OFTEN DICTATES

OUR PROJECTION OF GOD’S MOOD.

BUT WHEN WE SEE GOD’S GOOD MOOD,

WE ARE EMPOWERED TO PROCESS OUR SHAME!

  • Forgiveness tells me, “You may go.”
  • Righteousness tells me, “You are cherished, so please come.”

SHAME is the

negative emotional beliefs

we think about ourselves.

GOD’S FORGIVENESS IS FOR EVERYONE TO EXPERIENCE

JOHN 3:16-17 NKJV "For God so LOVED the WORLD that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 "For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but THAT THE WORLD through Him might be saved.

JOHN 1:29 NKJV The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, "Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away THE SIN OF THE WORLD!”

RIGHTEOUSNESS IS FOR EVERYONE TO EXPERIENCE

ROMANS 5:17-18 NKJV For if by the one man's offense DEATH reigned through the one, much more those who RECEIVE abundance of GRACE and of the gift of RIGHTEOUSNESS will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.) 18 Therefore, as through one man's offense [judgment came] to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man's RIGHTEOUS act [the FREE GIFT came] to ALL MEN, resulting in justification of life.

2 CORINTHIANS 5:17, 21 NKJV Therefore, if anyone [is] in Christ, [he is] a NEW CREATION; old things have passed away; behold, ALL things have become NEW. ... 21 For He made Him who knew no sin [to BE] sin for us, that we might BECOME the RIGHTEOUSNESS of God in Him.

“SIN CONSCIOUSNESS” = A SHAME IDENTITY

HEBREWS 10:1-4, 9-10, 14-17, 22 NKJV - 1 For the law, having a shadow of the good things to come, [and] not the very image of the things, can never with these same sacrifices, which they offer continually year by year, make those who approach PERFECT. 2 For then would they not have ceased to be offered? For the worshipers, once purified, would have had no more CONSCIOUSNESS of SINS. 3 But in those [sacrifices there is] a reminder of sins every year. 4 For [it is] not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins. ... 9 then He said, "Behold, I have come to do Your will, O God." He takes away the first that He may establish the second. 10 By that will [God’s will and desire] we HAVE BEEN SANCTIFIED through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ ONCE [FOR ALL]. ... 14 For by one offering He HAS PERFECTEDFOREVER those who ARE BEING SANCTIFIED. 15 But the Holy Spirit also witnesses to us; for after He had said before, 16 "This [is] the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the LORD: I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds I will write them," 17 [then He adds], "Their sins and their lawless deeds I will REMEMBER NO MORE." …22 let us draw near with a true heart in FULL assurance of FAITH, having our hearts sprinkled from an EVIL [ANNOYING, TORMENTING] CONSCIENCE and our bodies washed with pure water…

THE CLASSICAL GREEK WORD “CONSCIENCE” - Originally syneidesis appears to focus on self knowledge:  the capacity to relate to oneself, especially when one looks back at one’s won past. This looking back did not stop short with ascertaining facts, but led to evaluations and judgements about the criterion of good and evil. Hence, the word gradually acquired the current moral meaning of conscience. In other words, the Greek concept came to mean “knowing oneself,” referring to the unique human ability to evaluate ourselves morally.

HEBREWS 9:14 NKJV …how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your CONSCIENCE from DEAD WORKS to serve the living God?

NOW WHAT – DO WHAT?

  1. Recognize
  2. Neutralize
  3. Visualize
  4. Vocalize
  5. Emotionalize
